Review: The vegetarian Japanese restaurant of choice. Dining at Futaba is a wonderfully relaxing way to spend an evening with a large group of people or just one or two close friends. If your group is larger than four, there is spacious seating in the back of the restaurant. The service is friendly, fast and pleasant. For $25, one can leave the premises feeling pleasantly full. I fully recommend dining with a friend and sharing horenzo maki (veggie sushi with avocado and cucumber), shitake maki (veggie sushi with shitake mushrooms), an order of gyoza (veggie dumplings with crushed garlic... very yummy!), one of the many delightful tofu main courses... of which the tofu with teriyaki mushrooms is a favorite. If that won't fill you up, try ordering a side of rice with ginger sauce. Drink all the tea you want... hot water refills are free and for dessert allow your tastebuds to dance with a dish of frozen buddha... which my partner and I have renamed buddha's delight. It's a wonderful frozen fruit ice, great for those with dairy allergies. If you feel you need a night cap before strolling home have a glass of plum wine... its sweet warm flavour will surely give you a good sleep and pleasant dreams. Don't want to leave home but still want gyoza? Futaba has free take out and delivery... chopsticks included. Enjoy!
