Story Synopsis

It's a beautiful May morning in Vancouver when Kate Campbell wakes up in her Point Grey house. But something is amiss - there's no electricity, her cell phone doesn't work and there's no water in the toilet.

Kate's husband, the mayor of Vancouver, hasn't been home for days. He's busy at work since all hell broke loose on the world geopolitical landscape when the ultimate suicide bombs - atomic ones - were dropped on the Persian Gulf.

With communication systems compromised, Kate has no idea what is going on in the rest of world. Left on her own, this lady who lunches must find a way to reach her aging mother at the nursing home in the suburbs where nobody has answered the phone for days.

Kids in tow, Kate heads downtown by bicycle only to discover Vancouver is besieged by looters and pirates. The West Coast Express commuter train and The Port Mann Bridge are controlled by gangs of bikers who wind up in a climactic showdown with Kate.

Visiting Grandma by car used to take two hours, but in a world without oil it takes three days. As the comforts and luxuries of everyday life slip away, Kate mines her inner strength to save her family from lawlessness.
