Ultra 16mm
Michael Korican's 'dust2dust' is the latest in a growing number of films shot on CineVic's Eclair in the Ultra 16mm format.
The normal aspect ratio of 16mm film is 4:3. This is sometimes referred to as the Academy Ratio and matches standard television sets.
CineVic's Eclair camera has been modified by expanding the width of the film gate on both edges: the side reserved for the soundtrack and the side with the sprocket holes. This creates an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 which closely matches 16:9 HD television sets.
