Machinima
Michael Korican's 'i luv spam' is a six minute short that intercuts Machinima with live action film.
Machinima is an emerging form of animation that utilizes video game engines to create and animate characters in computer-generated environments. Male or female characters are sculpted and aged in character creation software. The scenes are then set, the characters dressed, and extras added to various shots. In virtual post-production, the characters are lip-synced with previously recorded voices. These clips are then exported for further editing in Final Cut Pro software.
The live action footage was shot in Victoria on Kodak 16mm film. It was processed and transferred to digital video at Rainmaker Entertainment and then edited in Final Cut Pro at CineVic. The finished production was transferred to BetaSP for broadcast at Colsut Pictures.
